Jonathan is a partner in Kaufman Borgeest & Ryan LLP’s New York City office. His practice areas include Medical Malpractice Defense, Long Term Care, and Nursing Home Defense, Health Care, Products Liability Defense and General Liability Defense Litigation. He is a former President of The Association for Healthcare Risk Management of New York (AHRMNY) and a member of the New York State Bar Health Law section.

Jonathan represents hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, psychologists, social workers and other allied medical professionals in civil litigation matters through trial in state and federal courts in New York. In addition to the representation of licensed professionals in medical malpractice and other professional liability claims, he has represented physicians and other medical professionals in disciplinary actions before the New York State Department of Health, Office of Professional Medical Conduct and the New York State Department of Education, Office of Professional Discipline. 

Jonathan also advises hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, psychologists, social workers and other allied medical professionals on new developments in healthcare law and effective risk management strategies. Jonathan engages with such healthcare providers to minimize risks and allow them to achieve their long-range goals.

Jonathan has particular experience in the defense of mental health providers, and he has lectured extensively in this area including recent ASHRM lectures focusing on “Managing Psychiatric Patients in Acute Care Settings” in March 2015 as well as at the national ASHRM annual conference. He has also given numerous presentations on the litigation of complex medical malpractice matters and a variety of risk management and confidentiality issues for a wide variety of health professionals. 

Prior to entering private practice, Jonathan served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, prosecuting a wide range of felony cases from inception through trial, including work on long term narcotics investigations involving state and federal law enforcement.
